9 Tips to Motivate Yourself To Get Up Every Morning

It’s “Good morning, sunshine” for others, is it the same for you today?

Well, not everyone is a morning person. Sometimes, even “morning people” would rather stay in bed sometimes, especially during cold weather or as others call it, “bed-weather”. If you’re a night owl, it can be even harder to get your day started.

A lot of people have challenges with getting up every morning due to their motivation level. With everything that is happening in the world nowadays, feeling motivated is perhaps one of the most difficult things on the horizon. This might cause us to feel frustrated and may impact our self-esteem, confidence, and optimism, not to mention personal undertakings which may also bring you stress and anxiety.

Regardless of how you see yourself, it is definitely better to get up in the morning. Doing so gives you an opportunity to keep going, have some exercise time, and not miss out on one of the most important meals of the day, breakfast.

Find out below some of the key changes that you can do to make mornings your favorite part of the day.

1. Proper Sleep Routine and Relaxed Ambiance

Let’s start off by getting a proper sleep routine in place. You should set a time as to when you should go to bed and follow it closely. Count the number of hours of your sleep to ensure that you’re resting for 7-8 hours every night. Make it a habit that when you go to bed, you put away your gadgets and they should be far from your reach. It’s best to set up a relaxed ambiance as well. The lighting and the temperature of your bedroom should always be your top priority. Adjust them to your desired conditions. It’s easier to fall asleep and get a night of quality relaxation when your body is comfortable.

2. Listen to “Feel-Good” Music

Using soothing music to wind down before bed each night is perfectly acceptable, even encouraged, as a great relaxation technique. Doing so may be helpful in boosting sleep quality and quantity. When your body acquires quality rest, you tend to wake up earlier since you’re feeling satisfied.

It is recommended to go for soothing songs that you like, specifically ones that have a slow rhythm. Familiar songs tend to work as well like classical, jazz, and folk music. Basically, something that you really love but not as indulging which will encourage you to stay awake for additional hours.

3. Engage Your Senses

After 7-8 hours of sleep, our body and senses start to reactivate. If your house is surrounded by nice smells, it may add to one’s motivation to wake up and keep going. Think about buying some fragrant candles or using essential oils around the house. Engaging your sense of smell may be helpful in giving you that extra boost in the morning.

Cold showers may not be the most popular choice but are something to be considered to perk you up as well.

Our sense of taste is also essential. Make sure to plan your breakfasts ahead of time, maybe fix yourself your favorite coffee or tea.

The more senses that you can engage in a positive way, the better you may feel about getting up in the mornings.

4. Daily Exercise

Exercising daily is something that many people strive to do. If you’re just planning or just started to do exercise in the morning, it can be a challenge at first. However, once your body is used to it, waking up and fulfilling this activity may start to become easier. Activities don’t have to be limited to jogging. You may also consider yoga and brisk walks. While you do these, you may also want to include 5-10 minutes of meditation.

5. Appropriate Alarm Clock Settings and Definitely No Snoozing

Don't start your day with the sound of a blaring alarm, radio static, or annoying music. It may be better to wake up with more calming sounds. Set your alarm to something soothing and upbeat. Consider setting up your alarm with sounds of a rainforest, ocean waves, birds singing, the flowing sounds of a stream or river, soft instruments such as violins, harps, pianos and flutes, smooth jazz, forest ambiance, or raindrops. Just make sure that the sounds do wake you up!

When you hear your alarm, you know the drill! Definitely, no snoozing. Do your best to open your eyes and give yourself a couple of seconds before getting up. A  big glass of water may also be beneficial in getting you going.

6. Ask Yourself Positive Questions

You should practice asking yourself some positive questions upon waking up. If you do this, you may be helping your brain and body to think more deeply and better understand your motivation.

Thrive Global suggested some questions that you can ask yourself to do just that.

  • Do I show enough gratitude?
  • What does my “gut” tell me?
  • Why do I do what I do?
  • Is this the best I can do?
  • Am I using my mentor or coach effectively?
  • Do I love myself?
  • Am I helping enough people?

    7. Reward Yourself with Something That Makes You Happy

Before closing your eyes and falling asleep, think of things that would make you happy and motivated for the next day. It may be a sweet treat in a coffee shop, a dine-in lunch, a movie, a song, etc. Something that you can give to yourself as a reward.

After all, your happiness should always be your top priority. By consistently doing this, you can instill excitement in your mindset which may go a long way in helping to keep you more motivated to get up in the morning.

    8. Create Your Vision Board and Look At It Every Morning

Vision boards provide you with a daily visual reminder of your dreams and goals. Creating a vision board is more than merely cutting out magazine pictures and gluing them onto a board, hoping to attract your desires. You should feel a strong connection to those desires when you look at the board images. Constantly reminding yourself of your aspirations and figuring out ways to achieve them is a great way to help motivate yourself.

    9. A Supplement to Promote Mood

Stress and anxiety can happen to anyone. It may be caused by work, family, school, or personal relationships.
